by trial and error found a few months ago that hotfix kb 840987 prevented
client machines from connecting to our win 2000 server without a reboot
using terminal services. last night used win update to install the
following:
microsoft net framework 1.1 service pack 1
kb841533
kb885835
kb885834
kb891711
kb873333
kb890047
kb888113
kb885250
kb891781
cumulative sec update for IE 6 service pack 1 -- kb 867282
and same problem again. is there information on which of these is
responsible ? is there a way to decide on future updates? thanks

I ran into the same problem that you described with terminal services
few months ago, and through a lot of searching the web found a sit
that listed KB840987 as the culprit. I removed the security patch an
Terminal Services worked fine again.

I downloaded the service packs that you listed in your message, and
too started having the same problem with Terminal Services again.
removed service packs one by one until I found the service pack tha
was causing the problem, and it turned out to be KB873333.

I know that Microsoft is aware that there is a problem with kb840987
but I am not sure if kb873333 has been reported to them. I do not kno
if there is a patch from Microsoft that resolves the Terminal Service
issue cuased by the service packs, but right now I have no way to loa
the two service packs that I mentioned above because I need to be abl
to use Terminal Services without having to reboot the server each tim
I need to log onto a TS session.

If anyone has any knowledge of a fix from Microsoft to resolve thi
issue, please post the information. I would really like to be able t
stay up-to-date on security patches
