I'm try to use Terminal Server for Remote Administration, but a couple of
the 2003 Servers, the connections fails. The event viewer on the server is
showing a License problem with from my desktop. I can connect to all 2000
servers and most 2003 servers. Why are the servers in question looking for a
license, when no license is required for remote admin?

ONLY uninstall Terminal Services!

Re-installing it will recreate the problem, since installing
Terminal Services on a Windows 2003 server implies Application
server mode (this has changed from W2K). This mode requires a TS
Licensing server and TS CALs.

Instead, go to System - Properties - Remote and enable "Remote
Desktop for Administration", just like you would on an XP desktop.
This option is equivalent to what was called "TS in Remote
Administration mode" on W2K.

Sorry to bring up an old post. I don't understand. Are you saying that by
installing TS on Server 2003 I no longer have one "free" Remote
Administration CAL? The documention made it sound as though I still had one
Remote Admin that would not soak up a TS license. I remember reading
something about attaching to session 0 to ensure I was on the Remote
Administration CAL.

Have I got it all wrong? There's a lot to read on TS and the rules change
with every Op Sys.

When running Windows Server 2003 in "remote desktop for administration" you
donŽt need any TS-Cal.

This rule has always been there: as soon as you install Terminal
Services for multi-user access (what is called Application Server
mode in W2K), then you do *not* have any free administrative
connections.

Connecting to the console does not change that.
