I have terminal services running on server 2003. I have 30 licenses and
about 14 users. When any user attempts to connect the username and password
is processed and the desktop appears without icons or a start bar then the
remote access client closes with no error message. This does not always
happen, sometimes the user gets on with the first attempt but it can happen
as manay as 10 or 15 times before the user successfully connects. It happens
with administrators and domain users and with connections from various
computers via the local network and over the internet using ADSL and dialup.
Once the user connects the sessions are stable and quick. I have not found
any reference to this problem. Can anyone help me. The server is a Pentium
3.2 with 2 GB RAM, two SATA 160GB drives with raid 1.

Vera I solved the problem by changing the video driver to the windows VGA
driver. So I tried a different video card (NVIDIA) and had the same problem.
It only works with the VGA driver. Is there a problem using the generic
driver and does this help with the solution?

OK, this is a known problem with some NVidia drivers:

886212 - You are unexpectedly logged off when you try to connect
to a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=886212

Nvidia drivers 56.72 or 56.64 both cause this problem.
Nvidia 2.20 WDMs works fine.
Driver version 53.04 works OK:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/pc_winxp-2k_53.04.html
Disabling the 'helper' NVIDIA service makes it work again.
(nvsvc32.exe listed in the Task Manager)
