colour depth

my knowledge of TS is limited, and Ive come into a job
where end users access some systems over TS which is run
on at Windows 2000 Server. Currently the system is set to
256 colours. I have attempted to configure the RDP/TS
clients to higher colour depth, but this does not seem to
have any effect. As you can imagine on some screens the
dithering makes some text difficult to read, so it does
need to be changed. I dont have admin rights to the
server, and when I contacted our IT dept to ask if the
server screen resolution could be enhanced (as it was also
set to 256 colours, and I thought RDP may rely on this
setting) they told me that TS on a Windows 2000 server
would not support colours above 256, which I find
difficult be believe, but not totally impossible.

Your IT department is correct. Windows 2000 TS supports a maximum of
256 colours. If you want more, you need Windows 2003 TS, or an add-on
like Citrix on top of W2K TS.

Yes
Only windows 2003 has more than 256 colors.
