Hello,

I have clients who need to use the Remote Desktop to connect to a server in
Brussels (We are in Madrid). After connecting with a VPN client they try to
open the session to the remote server and recieve an error:

"The session has disconnected because there are no license servers"....etc.
(Translated from Spanish)

Comments:

1. The same client machines have no problems connecting to Terminal Servers
in thier LAN.
2. Once connected to the remote LAN (VIA VPN) they can PING the host that
she needs to connect to.
3. Once connected to the remote LAN (VIA VPN) they can connect to port 3389
with telnet.
4. I have ruled out Black Hole Routers or MTU problems.
5 The registry Key on the client machines has MSLicensing with READ
permissions for Authenticated Users.
6. The client machines are XP sp1.
7. The remote server is Windows Server 2003
8. The cliente machines can connect to a DIFFERENT remote LANS (Not Brussels
VIA VPN) and open TS sessions with other remote servers.
9. Client machines in our LAN were able to connect to the remote servers in
Brussels at one point and now cannot.

Thats the story. It seems to me that Brussels has a problem no? But my
counterpart in Brussels says everything is fine.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Pete

Hi Pete,

I would like to confirm that what is the OS your client is using, English
version or Spanish?

If the problematic client is Spanish version, please know these newsgroups
are geared to answer on the English version of the product; this is because
we need some system information (English) to troubleshoot the issues. For
support for localized versions, I strongly recommend you view Global
Support Site (GSS) http://support.microsoft.com to find the support
resources appropriate to Spanish.

If the problematic machine is English, please take a screen shot and send
it to v-***@microsoft.com for research.

Meanwhile, this error message has indicated the client cannot contact the
license server. Have you installed the terminal service and the license
server on one machine? Can other place (rather than Madrid) connect to the
Brussels terminal server?

Based on my research, this issue could occur if the license server is in
another subnet. If this is the case, you can manually point the terminal
server to the license server as per steps in the article below

239107 Establishing Preferred Windows 2000 Terminal Services License Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=239107

Any update, let us get in touch!

Best regards,

Hi,

The client machines are in several languages (English, Spanish, Dutch) so I
thought English would be the best bet.

It turns out that the License Server in Brussels was unavailable for anyone
and hence no one could gain access to the TS. I thought all along the
problem was in his court but he did not believe me until other clients
started calling and complaining. Oh well, at least I learned a hell of a lot
about how to troubleshoot Terminal Services.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the update!

I understand you have found the root cause is the License Server in
Brussels, could you let me know has the issue been resolved or persists?
Does this server down to cause this issue?

I have the same option that troubleshooting Terminal Server could be a
tedious and a headache task. Your patience and understanding are greatly
appreciated.

In addition, I would like to provide the following article for you future
reference:

HTH!

If you have any update, please feel free to post back.
