HP Thin Clients not connecting

We have 2 thin clients (HP 5000 series) not able to connect to a Windows 2000
SP4 Terminal Server. Upon looking at the Terminal Services Licensing applet
in control panel, I see that The "Existing Windows 2000 License" shows
unlimited available and 4 in use. However, just under that it shows
Temporary License for Win 2k Terminal Srvs CAL, and it shows "Temporary." I
right click on the license, and gives me the product code to install, and
asks for an activation?? This box was installed by another consultant, and
have no idea how I can get an activation code.

ALso, am getting 1004 errors in Event viewer "The terminal server cannot
issue a license."

The error message the Thin clients receive follows:

"The remote computer disconnected this session because of an error in the
licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or
contact your server administrator."

The XP clients connect without a problem.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

The thin clients cannot use an "Existing Windows 2000 license",
since these are only issued (for free) to clients running XP Pro or
W2K Pro. Thin clients (like NT4, Windows9x, unix, macintosh
clients) need a purchased TS CAL. Did you buy and install any of
those? You should see a record of them in TS Licensing Manager,
along with the number of purchases TS CALs that was installed.
If there is no such record in LS, that's why the clients can't
connect.

Thank you for the link. Lots of good info. In the Terminal Services
Licensing Mgr, I see Temporary Licenses for W2K TS CALs. All have expired.
How did this temporary license get here? Is there a way to reinstall a
temporary code to get them going while we purchase the license? I tried
activating the existing temporary license but have no idea what activation
code to use because this was done by a diferent consultant. I have no
previous information. Thanks!

Temporary licenses are issued by the Licensing Server when a new
client who needs a license connects, and there are no permanent
licenses available. You cannot install or activate a temporary
license. A specific client can only be issued a temporary license
once, after that it needs a permanent license.

There's really nothing you can do but to buy and install licenses.
