Terminal Services Licensing Error Message.

Hi,

I have two Windows servers. A windows 2000 and a 2003 server. The
Windows 2000 server is the license server and the 2003 server is the
terminal server. I bought 15 Cals for the 2003 server and 15 Cals for
the terminal server form microsoft. I got the keys from the internet
and installed the terminal server Cals from the internet some time in
October last year.

After the installation the users on the remote end use Remote Desktop
Connection from Windows XP PC's to connect to the terminal server. It
worked for about three months and now I am getting an error when I am
trying to connect remotely to the terminal server. The error is "The
remote session was disconnected because there are no terminal server
client licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server
administrator". The license server cannot provide a license at this
time. I checked the license server and the licenses are activated. It
is also activated on the terminal server. I ping both the IP addresses
and NetBois names and it works. It is not a DNS problem. Is there
anything I am over looking? I really need your help. I would appreciate

A Windows 2003 TS must connect to a 2003 TS Licensing Server. A W2K
server cannot issue 2003 TS CALs.
You have to install the Licensing Server on a 2003 server (can be
the same server as the TS), and install your licenses there.

I purchase 15 licenses which was installed on Windows 2000 server as
the license server. I am running a Windows 2003 server which I would
like to make the license server and also issue license to the clients.
Should I re-install the terminal server licenses on the 2003 box from
the terminal server licensing screen? Before the installation should I
de-activate the Windows 2000 server as the license server? I am hoping
that I can start using the permanent licenses.

Yes, that's what you'll have to do.
By installing the 2003 TS CALs on a W2K Licensing Server, you have
actually downgraded them to W2K TS CALs (since a W2K LS cannot
handle 2003 TS CALs.
Deactivate the W2K LS, install and activate the 2003 LS, install
your 2003 TS CALs on it. Make sure that you decide if you want Per
User or Per Device, and that the TS is configured with the same
licensing mode as the TS CAL type.
If the W2K server is the DC, you might have to hardcode the address
of the 2003 LS into the registry of the 2003 TS (even when they are
running on the same server):

When everything is working correctly, uninstall the W2K LS
alltogether.

I'm not sure if you will be able to install the same licenses again
on the 2003 LS, since you already installed them on the W2K LS. If
you get into any problems there, use the telephone method and call
the Clearinghouse.

Hi

I have a Windows 2000 server box which is a domain controller and
Windows 2003 which is a member of the domain controller. I have users
setup on both servers. I would like to setup logon scripts for the
users on the member server to logon to the 2003 box locally. I know
where to place the scripts for a domain controller. Do you know where I
should place a logon script for a user on a member server to logon on
locally? Also when I logon to the member server locally and I try to
use a net use command to map shared resources it is asking me for a
password. All the users on the member server are members of of domain
users. Do you know how should I slove this problem? Thanks in advance.
