Hi all,

I am running Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Server Service, I got the
Teminal Server licensing activated as "Per Device" mode and installed the 20
licenses that we got, everything works fine, people don't have any problem
connecting to it. However, when i check into the terminal server licensing
tool, i can see that we got 20 TS per device CAL, but no matter how many
users connect to the TS, the Issued column always show as only "2" license is
issued. I don't understand why. but i can get more than 2 devices/people to
connect. while it is nice to have everyone connected, but i am afraid this
issue will bite me in the future. Can anyone tell me what is happening? If
i check on the server activation stauts, it is activated.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is there another TS Licensing Server on your network?
Check with lsview from the Resource Kit:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-
57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en

Have you checked the EventLog on the TS for errors?
Are your clients maybe all newly installed, and ghosted from the
same image?

HI Vera,

Thank you very much for your reply!

The Client are not newly installed and they are not from a ghost image, and
there is no error message for TS during the period that i login. I tried use
up to 5 machines with 5 different users login. There is no other License
server on the network.

Since it is not our server, i can't install the resource kit, but what does
lsview do?

Cheers

You can install the 2003 Resource Kit on any XP client.
LSview lists the TS Licensing Servers. About the only reason I can
think of for your situation is that the clients are receiving their
license from another licensing server. Since the TS isn't yours,
maybe there's a LS that isn't yours either? I would check this out.

Do I understand correctly that the Terminal Service and your TS
Licensing Service are running on the same server?
Did you do anything to make the TS detect the LS?
You could, as a troubleshooting method, hardcode the name of the LS
into the registry of the TS (pointing it to itself). Thereby you
force the TS to get the TS CALs only from your own LS, excluding
other Licensing Servers (if they exists).
Maybe you find that the TS is already pointed to another LS?
