I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and would like to upgrade
my RDP to RDP 5.2 to allow me to use local network printers.
I am having trouble finding the Microsoft download for this upgrade. Can
someone provide me with the correct link. Thanks.

RDP client 5.2.3790 is *not* an upgrade from 5.1.2600.2180, as
5.1.2600.2180 was delivered as part of XP SP2, and 5.2.3790 was
part of Server 2003, which as released before XP SP2. They just
carry the build numbers of the OS (5.1 is XP, 5.2 is 2003).
So you already have the latest version of the RDP client, and
network printers are supported.

If your client printers are not autocreated, check the EventLog to
find the reason. If the server doesn't recognize the printer, map
the printer to a native driver on the server, by creating a custom
ntprintsubs.inf file. Details are explained here:

239088 - Windows 2000 Terminal Services Server Logs Events 1111,
1105, and 1106
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239088

You can check the recommended native driver substitution for your
printers here:

If you are running 2003 SP1 on your Terminal Server, you can
configure a Terminal Server Fallback Printer Driver. For more info,

There are some small differences:

5.2.3790 added the "Reconnect if connection is dropped" (auto reconnect)
5.2.3790.1830 added the Security tab (TLS Authentication)

You're absolutely right, TP. All of these versions support
redirection of network printers, though.
