TS in datacenter

Hi All,

I have a few Windows 2000 servers in geographically seperated
datacenters. So far, to access these servers, I have been using the
terminal server in remote administration mode and RDP client on my
WinXP Pro workstation, which works well for me. Now, I need to delegate
certain tasks to others, who needn't have administrative privileges on
the servers - hence I was looking at moving the terminal server to
application server mode.

My questions:

1. Am I on the right track?
2. Can I use the same license server for all datacenters (they are
interconnected by site-site VPNs, but are in different subnets).
3. The servers are not members of any domain, and we do not have a
domain controller in the datacenters. Can I still use the terminal
server in application server mode?
4. All my Windows 2000 servers came with "5 client access licenses".
What does this mean?
5. Any resources on how to setup the license server?

Thanks,

Binand

If you do not need more than 2 concurrent connections to each
server, you don't have to switch to application server mode.

You can just add those users to the rdp-tcp connection permissions.
No need for them to be Administrators. Make sure that you instruct
those users to *not* keep their connection active all the time. You
can enforce this by configuring a time-out limit on idle sessions
and automatically reset them.

I would *not* switch a server to TS in application server mode just
for administrative purposes. This switch will change the internal
tuning of your server, have an impact on the performance of
whatever the server's main task is, and might interfere in other
ways as well.
