The network request is not supported - Help needed !!!

Hi all,

I'm in front of a big problem, i hope you will be able to help me :)

I have 1 site in France (where i work) and another site in Belgium, they are
connected via permanent VPN link.

The problem: When i try to open a session on a Win2000 SP4 server ( not a
DC ) in Belgium with terminal server client, i come to the "log on to
windows" window, but, when i enter my login/password i have a message that i
can't understand.

Logon message: The system can not log you on due to the following error :
The network request is not supported. Please try again or contact your
system administrator.

And it brings me back to the "log on to windows" window.
This problem came on the 2 only terminal service servers on this site, and,
the same day ....

One remark : I always have that problem, with whatever login password i
enter, even a false login password, like if it was'nt even checked.

But when users log on it locallly ( directly on the server) everything works
fine, the sessions open up as usual.

As this problem seemed to be a network problem , i made someone test a
connexion to those terminal servers from their local network, and we had the
same result.
I tested a server reboot ---> the same
The services configurations seem good, it's the same as my servers here.
In the GPOs, interactive logon is enabled.

So, i don't know what to do now :(

tried to explain in my best English ;)

Anything to report from the event viewer both from clients trying to connect
and from the servers?

Anyway, test you Active Directory connectivity with netdiag and then report
back the results.

Help here too!!!!

I have several win 2000 servers with sp4 and they all have valid licenses.
Today I tried from the console to login and received the subject message,
'The network request is not supported' I have made no changes to this server
for over 5 months. What's up??? Also, my internet connection to Microsoft
on three different ISPs is very slow. Sounds like I'm not the only one
having a bad day.

The EventLog probably shows EventID 20071, 20151, 20063 from
RemoteAccess and Rasman.

823405 - Several Remote Access Service Error Events Appear After You
Upgrade to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

According to the above KB article, this can happen directly after
installing SP4 and a reboot should solve it, which it obviously
doesn't do in your case.

However, Microsoft Events & Errors Help about EventID 20071 from

mentions the following:

An an entry-point problem nearly always indicates a mismatch in dll
versions.
Can you ask someone at the site to logon locally (with Admin rights)
and re-apply SP4? Then reboot. Hope this helps.

i have also this problem on a 200 sbs server i reboot the machine and it is
solved but it is repeated second time tihis morning(1st yesterday ) there
is no new sp4 installation
in addition the clients cannot access outlooks (this is an exchange server)
locally

I have noticed a few new things since yesterday.
And i wanted to remind that those servers are not Domain Controllers, and
that our VPN is a permanent tunnel beetween 2 firewalls.

At nearly the same time, on the 2 problematic servers, i have the same entry
in the event viewer :

Event Category: Devices
Event ID: 5000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: The security package Negotiate generated an exception. The
package is now disabled. The exception information is the data.

Do you think this is related to my problems ??

I have too noticed that i shoudn't have trusted my users so much, because i
have seen that one of those servers was SP3 and the other one SP4, not both
SP4.

I hope you will be able to help me in finding a solution ;)

I would certainly make sure that all servers are running the same
SP!

Have a look at this Event on EventID.net, there is actually a post
from someone who got this error after installing SP2 on *one*
server. His problem disappeared when he installed SP2 on *all*
servers.

I have the same problem on 3 servers at different customers.
One SBS 2000 and two windows 2000 servers both with exchange 2000 installed
on it.
The SBS and on of the two native windows 2000 servers have "Symantec AV
Filtering for MS Exchange" installed, the third one has got McAfee installed
on it.
The problems also started from the first of juin.
Also at Experts-Exchange two discussions are going on about this problem.
This must be a major problem !!!!!!

[same problem]

I just stopped the service, went to system32 folder and renamed and replaced
with a dummy file. Then I ran RegEdit and searched and removed all
msupdtm.exe; there were four entries. Then I rebooted and update 4 critical
win 2000 server updates I was missing. Of course I'm still trying to figure
out how it attached my server when only port 80, pop and smtp were open.

Hi all, i have found what was the problem: my machines were infected by the
new version of W32.Spybot.Worm :

I have noticed a few new things since yesterday.
And i wanted to remind that those servers are not Domain Controllers, and
that our VPN is a permanent tunnel beetween 2 firewalls.
At nearly the same time, on the 2 problematic servers, i have the same entry
Event Type: Error
Event Source: LsaSrv
Event Category: Devices
Event ID: 5000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: The security package Negotiate generated an exception. The
package is now disabled. The exception information is the data.
Do you think this is related to my problems ??
I have too noticed that i shoudn't have trusted my users so much, because i
have seen that one of those servers was SP3 and the other one SP4, not both
SP4.
I hope you will be able to help me in finding a solution ;)

Hi all,
I'm in front of a big problem, i hope you will be able to help me :)
I have 1 site in France (where i work) and another site in Belgium, they
are connected via permanent VPN link.
The problem: When i try to open a session on a Win2000 SP4 server ( not a
DC ) in Belgium with terminal server client, i come to the "log on to
windows" window, but, when i enter my login/password i have a message that
i can't understand.
The network request is not supported. Please try again or contact your
system administrator.
And it brings me back to the "log on to windows" window.
This problem came on the 2 only terminal service servers on this site,
and, the same day ....
One remark : I always have that problem, with whatever login password i
enter, even a false login password, like if it was'nt even checked.
But when users log on it locallly ( directly on the server) everything
works fine, the sessions open up as usual.
As this problem seemed to be a network problem , i made someone test a
connexion to those terminal servers from their local network, and we had
the same result.
I tested a server reboot ---> the same
The services configurations seem good, it's the same as my servers here.
In the GPOs, interactive logon is enabled.
So, i don't know what to do now :(
I hope that someone will be able to help me, and that you understood what
i tried to explain in my best English ;)
